1 Star I regret the day I bought it
The phone itself is o.k. if G.E. happens to include all the parts in yours. The answering machine is low quality and cuts of the last few words. I called to get G.E. to send the missing part of the phone which was the belt clip. After being on hold and going through giving lots of information, they refused to help unless I mailed the phone back (which would leave me with no phone). It’s pretty simple to mail me a belt clip but they wouldn’t do it. They sugggested I drive to the nearest outlet (an hour away) and buy one. I regret ever buying this phone. The audio boost is just o.k. and isn’t enough. I do love the Dect 6.00 technology. No interference and I can talk a long way from the base all the way over to my neighbor’s house. Next time I’ll buy a different brand and get the Dect 6.00

5 Stars Best phone for dual needs (hearing and vision)
This 27907 phone set is the best I could find for my 91-yr-old mother, now technically challenged like many her age. It has been so successful that after a year with only the 27907, she ordered an accessory handset, so if she forgets to charge it there will be another ready and waiting, and so that an emergency phone can be put in the bathroom. One reviewer couldn’t find an accessory handset; its model number is 27918, and amazon.com lists several. Nearly all the negative reviewers’ issues are addressed by careful reading of the instruction booklet. It does have a lot of “bells and whistles” but Mother just disregards the unwanted ones. To avoid taking her hearing aid out, rather than putting the phone against her ear, she presses the speaker button when she answers instead of the talk button. (To disconnect, you press whichever one you last used; if you press the other it switches to that mode.) The 4 volume levels default to the last setting, and there is an additional white button against the dark handset color to boost the volume further; that this white button has to be pushed each time the phone is answered instead of defaulting to it is my only criticism. I have found that callers who are not clearly audible (1) have inferior handsets themselves, (2) are calling from remote mountain-locked areas, or (3) both. It is possible to make the phone announce aloud the numbers as you dial. The reason this review sounds like an instruction manual is that some of the reviewers objected to things that were in the booklet (available at www.thephoneresource.com if it’s lost), and I believe these negative reviews have left an unjustifiably bad impression of a tool that has proven nearly ideal for an elderly person with handicapping hearing and vision problems. As hard as I searched before I bought this, I would have appreciated there being more positive ratings and detailed positive reviews; I bought 27907 with trepidation because of negative reviews, but the phone has been even better than I dared hope.

1 Star Poor for users of hearing aids
This phone advertises that it is good for people with mild hearing loss. I hoped it would be good for someone wearing behind the ear hearing aids. Not so. I could not get the telecoil in my hearing aids to sync with the phone. And even with the volume set at maximum, I could not hear the voice at the other end of the line. I returned the phone and replaced it with Panasonic KX-TG9332 which is also DECT 6.0. It is not especially recommended for the hearing impaired but I am able to use the telecoil on my hearing aids with the phone and the voice on the other end is clear. Also, the manual for the Panasonic is well written which is not the case for the GE.

Reviews for phones seldom mention hearing aid users. I hope this will be helpful for those with hearing aids.

5 Stars Excellent and easy to use. Highly recommended
We replaced a very old phone system with a base and two portable units in this line from RCA/GE.

I am not an electronics geek but I found this system easy to program and set up was very quick. We have had it operating for two weeks and it works fine and has good sound d quality and no apparent interference with our wireless computer net work or our wireless surround sound system.

Highly recommended.

5 Stars Great Phone for a Great Price
Easy to use, nice big numbers. Clarity fantastic, nice booster for hard of hearing. I bought one for my 93 yr old technically challenged father-in-law, had it working in seconds. He loves it and has recommended it to several friends. He likes the one button to turn on/off the phone. His last phone had a talk and an off button, but they would always hit the wrong button and their phone would be off hook for hours. Doesn’t happen with this phone because it is just one button. He also loves the light up ring. It makes it easier to find, and also a visual confirmation of an incoming call. Am buying one for myself, just wish it was offered without the answering machine, since I don’t use an answering machine. No problem, just will turn off that feature.

Can’t say enough how great this phone is! Why can’t every company make a phone like this?

1 Star Not a good phone at all
I bought this phone 6 months ago and basically stop working (no communication between the base and the handset) two weeks ago. Before this thing happened, have to reset the unit almost very week for six months until it finally dies. At first, I thought it was our internet provider (AT&T) that was the problem so I changed it to Time Warner but the same problem happened over and over again. Called GE’s (Thompson’s)customer service to have it replace since it still under manufacturer’s warranty but was so surprise to hear that GE does not support products that were sold online especially from auction sites (don’t ever buy from Buy.com if you want a peace of mind – GE is claiming that they sell used phones that’s why they can’t give warranty ). So buyer’s be very careful buying this product online, especially when buying it from BUY.com. But as a product, it’s a not a good one since it’s very unstable and quality and customer service really sucks! DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE BUYING. THERE ARE BETTER PRODUCTS THAN THIS ONE.

GE – SKYPE – Dect 6.0 Cordless phone

I purchased this phone to make cheap phone calls…This phone worked perfectly 1st one week or so..after one week it just could not sign into skype i could not go into the ip settings when i tried to do it ..it comes back to first page…I tried every possible way to fix it..reboot..reset..turning it off for 24 hours but nothig worked..i would say that there are bugs in the software of this phones and GE customer support is also non responsive…Please stay away from this phone

I bought this phone in DEC.08, after few weeks did not work anymore, contacted Thomson Inc, the company that covers the warranty,as of today 5/22/09 they have not replaced the phone and neither refund me the money, even involved BBB to help me on this case. I hope you do not have to go thru my same ordeal.

Every now and then this phone has to be reset..sometimes i need to actually remove the batteries form it..

that being said i have read the other negative reviews on amazon and found that i can relate to what others are saying.

This is a fantastic phone; EASY to use, good clear voice tone, with plenty of volume, good answering machine, easy to read the caller ID. I have ordered a second phone for us and another as a gift for our daughter. We would recommend it to anyone who wants a very servicable phone without having to be a rocket scientist to set it up.

2 Stars Caller Can’t Hear Very Well
No matter who I am talking to on this phone, they are not able to hear me very well. I get a lot of “I can barely hear you.”, “Sounds like you aren’t talking into the receiver.”, etc… I have had many people complain about this and I make sure to talk loud and directly into the receiver but it doesn’t help. Frustrating since I have an at home business.

1 Star Do not buy this phone!
I bought this phone a year ago (Jan 08) and it recently died on me. It kept giving me the “low battery” indicator, even if I only talked for 5 minutes. I would replace the battery, but just decided the chuck the whole phone since a phone battery costs $15.00 (half the price of the phone). I’ve own three cordless phones in the last twelve years, and this is by far the worst.

1 Star Piece of Junk
I have had a few cordless phones. This one wore out the fastest. The battery when the phone is off the hook died the fastest. And it is the biggest piece of junk of the cordless phone I’ve had. I have to go out and replace mine now.

5 Stars No problems, works great for us!
We’ve had this system for over 6 months and we’ve been very happy with it. The phone and answering machine are very easy to use and work great.

What I love about it:

- You can turn off the ringer on the phone.

- You can raise the volume on the phone so you can hear better. Sometimes I want it REALLY loud and this phone does it.

- You can listen and delete your messages from the phone.

- You can put the numbers that you frequently call in memory on the phone.

- The battery lasts a long time (I’ve had the phone off the base and in use for hours and haven’t had it die on me yet).

- The date and time are easy to set (and reset). This was a problem with our old phone because whenever we lost power, I’d have to get the manual out to figure out how to reset the date and time. It’s so easy on this one! It saves me so much aggravation.

- The caller ID is easy to read.

- The answering machine is easy to turn off.

- The price!!

I would purchase this again.

This phone is really a waste for the money, the battery doesn’t last for the time expected (nor half of it), the call quality is very poor, when u just go to the next room their is so much noise, end of line try another one.
