4 Stars I got these for my kid
This will not be a technical review. Then again, if you cared about technical specs in audio equipment, then you would not be looking at these headphones, anyway.

Here is my review:

I bought these headphones this May for my 5 year old. It is December, and they are still in good condition and work perfectly. In that time, I have gone through 3 or 4 pairs of somewhat expensive earbuds. The sound on these headphones is fine, not great, not terrible, just fine, but the durability is amazing.

5 Stars Relatively Expensive But Quality, Need Power To Drive Them
These Philips Headphones are the only other pair that I own. I also have Sony 100’s (for mini headphones). I listened to two recordings with these headphones. One classical CD with Rachmaninov Symphonic Dances with Svetlanov on a Russian Label and INX’s Shabooh Shoobah. The Rachmaninov sounded good as the orchestral playing of the Symphonic Dances sometimes demonstrated the bass and midrange seperately. The treble was there also don’t get me wrong. The INXS sounded worse. The midbass, midrange, and lower treble were all prominent above the extreme highs and lows. Only in track 9 did the bass demonstrate itself only because it wasn’t “clouded” by the other frequencies. Michael Hutchence the lead singer sounded a bit boxed and not as natural. But then again these are mini headphones for less than $15.00. The specs on these headphones say 18hz is the lower limit I wonder if that isn’t the lower limit period and not the usual -3dB measurement. To me the bass can be felt in the ear if the volume is right and the right material is playing, but I wonder how deep that actually is…100hz…80hz. I can’t imagine these reproducing sound below that without trailing off significantly. The imaging is fine and probably better than most full size units. These are no Sony 7506’s mind you, but maybe imaging as good as Sennheiser’s HD 280’s without a deep of a bass or overall flat of a response. Don’t let me make you think that these are anywhere near as good as those more expensive headphones. I am probably exaggerating a little to make a point. Lastly these aren’t very sensitive and will probably eat up your batteries or test the small amplifier in whatever miniature device you plug them into. I didn’t test their power handling either. So it is possible that it takes a lot to drive them and once YOU get them to the level you want they COULD distort. This is my early review. I’ll try to update it with use.

4 Stars Thin, comfortable headphones at the right price
I have been using these headphones for the past 8 years as I have a tendency to fall asleep listing to my mp3…currently a Zune. These are the flattest most comfortable headphones for this purpose…….much more reasonable than specialty items…..I also toss and turn and like the fact that they disengage on their own…….wrap arounds would not work for me. I have tinnitus and cannot use earbuds, which if you turn the wrong way……..get imbedded in your ear canal.

Downside…………..this activity eventually will destroy the cabling at the connection to the headset. Current phones have lasted almost 9 months…I am hoping there was a prod mod to improve the termination. PS: They did fix it. I have been using the current set for 1 1/4 and they are still going strong. Hurray for Philips

Please do not ever take these out of production

2 Stars get what you pay for
very weak, doesnt cancel out any noice. sound is kind of quiet. but you get what you pay for….

4 Stars Great cheap set of headphones
They are not perfect, but if you want a very cheap, comfortable set of headphones these are very good. I love how light they are, and I can wear them for hours. The sounds quality is very decent.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Great headphones for their price.
The Good: Great sound (for their price), very portable, good all-around basic headphones

The Bad: They seem somewhat flimsy, weak bass

I got these headphones to go with my laptop and iPod last summer (2008), and they served me well until I upgraded to Sennheiser HD-555s. I still use them with my iPod, for which they are perfectly suited if you are like me and don’t like earbuds.

That said, these are great headphones for their price. Sound quality is pretty good, though the bass seems a bit weak. Other reviews compliment the bass, though, and I don’t have much to compare them with, so don’t just take my word for it.

The folding design lets them fit in a coat pocket or backpack (I wouldn’t recommend putting them in a pants pocket), very handy for use with an iPod as they can be stored as easily as earbuds between uses. They’re pretty comfortable and decent for home use, though I worry about them falling off if I tilt my head too much.

The drawback to their folding design, though, is that they feel pretty flimsy. If they come apart at the folding joints (which has happened to me a few times), putting them back together can be tricky due to their tiny screws.

Overall, though, they’re nice cheap headphones for use at home or with an iPod for those who don’t want to spend too much.

3 Stars Decent Sound, Poor Durability
I bought these headphones as a replacement of my iPod earbuds. What attracted me was the cheap price, and once I had opened them, their easy storage; the headphones have three hinges, one at the top and one for each ear, that lets them fold up and thus fit with ease into my trenchcoat pocket.

The sound of these headphones is good for the price. However, a lot of the sound blasts outward and so if the volume is too high, everyone else knows what you are listening to, but in crowded areas it is no concern. Nothing in particular stands out about the sound quality, good or bad; the sound is clear and nothing is over or underemphasized.

However, the headphone design is not particularly durable. I tend to shove my headphones into a pocket while in class so I don’t have to worry about them. Since these headphones fold up, one would think this wouldn’t be a problem. Instead, the right phone comes loose from the base. Seeing as the phones are screwed in, and the screw comes off WITH the earphone, I honestly have no idea how this happens. My only guess is that the plastic is too flexible/loose and so the screw is able to slip out and no longer secures the headphones in place.

Perhaps this would be fine if it only happened once in a while; however, I regularly have to pull out my mini screwdriver set to delicately screw the headphones back together. No matter how tight I make it, without fail, the right ear eventually comes loose from the base again. As this happens, I can see the wear around the screw hole, and I’m certain the plastic will break altogether eventually.

The sound quality isn’t affected, and I can even temporarily shove the headphones back together without breaking the structure and have it stay secure on my head for a time; however, it is an annoyance that makes the storange convenience of the headphones seem pointless. Why store them when they will fall apart?

Hence, while I may recommend the headphones for having decent sound quality for the price, I would not recommend them for their design; it is flimsy and offsets the convenience of being able to store these headphones in tight locations.

Thank you for reading my review, and I hope it was helpful.

4 Stars Excellent inexpensive headphones
I’ve had these headphones for about two years after my utter failure to wear earbuds. I am pretty hard on headphones, wanting to cram them into my bag, so the foldable set is ideal. This Phillips pair has a great sound at a very low price, fits comfortably (even over my glasses), and stands up to abuse in purses, gym bags, etc.

I recently began having the problem mentioned in other reviews, namely the output in one ear is going for no apparently reason. However, considering the price and the fact that I’d have crushed other portable headphones by now, I’m ordering another pair anyway. Hooray Phillips!

5 Stars Better than earbuds.
These headphones produce quality stereo sound while being durable and easy to wear. These take the place of those rotten earbuds that refuse to fit my small ears.

3 Stars Overall sound good for the price.
For around ten bucks, these headphones sound good, are probably better than the cheap low-quality ear buds that came with your MP3 player or phone, and are a good value. However, if you truly want much ‘higher end’ sound that will enable you to hear every nuance and detail in your music (with much improved bass), and that will ‘knock your socks off’, check out slightly more expensive quality models like the ‘AKG K26P’ or ‘AKG K27i’ or the ‘Sennheiser PX-100′ or ‘PX-100W’ cans (headphones). You won’t believe how great music can sound on your portable player spending just 30 to 50 bucks on better ‘cans’!

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Not too happy
The phone hangs up on people a lot. The buttons are on the unit so if you try to hold the phone with your shoulder, it hangs up. If you are eating or chewing gum, your jaw hits the button and hangs up. I would not recommend this to anyone unless they correct that defect.

3 Stars Not enough details
This phone is great, but the description did not tell me that it was an add on phone for another product. I was so excited to get it out of the box and charge it up, and then I realized…there’s no where to plug in my phone line!?! I was quite frustrated. It’s on its way back to Amazon as we speak, and I had to place another order for the phone that will actually work out of the box.

3 Stars Philips disappoints
Update 10/29/2008

Over the past few days, the product constantly keeps going to “searching” and drops calls. I am looking to buy a Panasonic DECT phone now. The Philips goes to junk.

Let me first say, that in the one year that I’ve been using the phone I have not had any issues with call quality or range. But then the phone is just ok. The user interface is not very intuitive and I would call it very mediocre. Simple features like phonebook sharing are missing. Every once in a while, the phone goes “searching” a few feet away from the base. Battery life is also just ok, not great. Overall, this seems like not a poorly engineered but un-engineered product meaning no one seems to have paid attention to features and functions. The Philips Skype phone I bought also has the same mediocre quality and is infact very unreliable. Sorry, I am not going to buy any Philips products in the future.

1 Star This product sucks
We bought a set of two phones. They are awful. We have only had them a few weeks – they barely hold a charge, and frequently disconnect. Do not buy them.

2 Stars if I had the boxes
If I had kept the boxes , I would return this Item. This is a very cheap quality and menu of a wireless phone ans system.

The Intercom is a Joke. Oh well, One loss for me, One win for Philips and Amizon.
