I renewed a relationship with a long-lost half-sister that I haven’t seen in over 30 years. I am in my 40’s and she is in her early 60’s. She lives about 6 hours from me and we’ve been talking on the phone weekly for the last 6 months. She is very glad that I contacted her and we have shared many wonderful conversations, getting to know each other again. We have so much in common and have expressed remorse at all the years that have gone by since seeing each other. I have wanted to go see her and her family, but she has been traveling out of the country and also recently had some health issues. I send her LOTS of pictures of my wife and children, friends, and happenings in my life and I text her cell phone regularly. I also send her small “sister” gifts from time to time to let her know how much our new-found relationship means to me. However, I have not received many pictures from her at all and she rarely text me back; although she says she’s going to get more into texting than she has in the past. She is, basically, a generation older than me and is not into email at all, or taking digital pictures, and I am the only person she’s ever sent texts to. I’m beginning to feel like the relationship is kinda one-sided. I feel like I put a lot more time into our brother/sister relationship. But, to be fair, I’ll mention that she did remember my birthday with not one, but 3 cards, and also a nice gift. However, overall, I am putting much more time into this renewal than I’m getting in return. And yet I work a lot of hours and she does not work outside the home. And suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated! )
