Voting Question: I saw a commercial on tv about keeping off air tv free. What is it about?

I can't find much about it on the internet, but if they are referring to preventing congress from removing tv stations from the airwaves, why didn't they say exactly that? I assume it's something about making everyone rent their digital converter box, replace the boxes that allow free tv viewing with boxes that decrypt over the air signals, or replace free off air tv with paying for local tv stations fed through cell phone towers. At least you could get all your local stations with the last option. If they're gonna make us pay for off air tv, they never should've forced everyone to buy those converter boxes.

Voting Question: I am a newcomer to cable, high speed internet, and hd tv. What services would you recommend?

I currently use dial up which is a free service provided by my school which I would like to upgrade b/c of the slow downloads. I also currently do NOT have any cable service provider, I watch the basic channels via a digital converter box on my old 19 inch tv. I am currently in the market to upgrade my tv to a flat screen LCD 1080p, 120-240hz, I also am in the market for a bundling cable or satellite, high speed internet service. Problem is I know absolutely nothing about them, I currently live in the Chicago area and have At&t for home phone service, which I hardly ever use btw and would consider getting rid of. I have contacted RCN, WOW, and At&t (originally for the uverse but it is not available in my area so I was offerred the Direct Tv service) Any suggestions? No rush either. I want to be able to work faster on the computer, (I'm not a big gamer but I would like to be able to watch You tube, I download music from itunes and videos) I would like to be able to surf the net faster, I would also like to be able to watch tv without losing signals which happens a lot with the converter box. I am okay with basic channels, however have a few I would like such as tbs, oxygen, lifetime, etc. I don't watch a lot of tv, the 2,5,7,9,11,26, 32, and 50 usually suit me okay. Any suggestions? Thanks
