Well, I think so many problems may be an exaggeration. Anyway, I have a Dell Vostro 1520 notebook, built just last month. I have a 250GB Western Digital Scorpio Black hard drive (7200RPM), an Intel Core 2 Duo dual core processor, 2GB of RAM and a Dell Wireless-N 1510 card. Recently ever since I put my cousin’s microSD card into the built-in card reader made by O2Micro, my computer would freeze up every time I try to read from any microSD card. I myself have an LG Venus, my friend has a Samsung Slyde M540 and my other friend has some kind of LG flip phone (not a Chocolate; it’s kind of reddish-blackish). Anyway, no matter what kind of microSD card I insert into the reader, everything keeps freezing up. But when I insert my card adapter into the card reader of my old Sandisk Sansa e130, the card loads up fine and the computer doesn’t freeze, so it has to be a problem with the internal card reader, correct? I’ve already tried looking for driver updates online and I’ve re-installed the driver twice; once from the Dell website and once from my Dell driver disc. No matter what I try, my computer always freezes when I try to read a microSD card. I’ve done everything else there is to do; I’ve defragged my hard drive, scanned for errors, scanned for viruses and spyware, used Windows Update, used System Restore and nothing. Not only that, but a lot of times when I try to start up my computer from a complete shutdown, the Startup Recovery screen shows up and it repairs errors so that Windows can start. It gets kind of annoying. And now just recently I can’t burn CDs anymore. I can burn DVDs no problem but CDs don’t burn. I have Nero 7 Ultra and Windows Media Player that I use to burn audio CDs and they both worked fine before. I used Sony brand discs, Verbatim and Fujifilm. Only the Fujifilm disc worked and to top it off, it was scratched up as it was. The Verbatim and Sony discs were fresh out of the packaging with no specks, scratches, fingerprints or anything on the surface. My drive makes a weird noise like the laser isn’t working and the CD doesn’t burn. But when I go to my dad’s old Dimension 3000 desktop, it burns the same CDs just fine using the same programs and the same reading and burning speeds. I think there’s something up with the lens but I’ve used a Memorex CD/DVD lens cleaner and still it doesn’t burn CDs. I’ve paid $1000 for this laptop, but don’t get me wrong; it runs blazingly fast and it does everything I need it for, if not better than I expected. Even with all my programs and only 68GB of hard drive space remaining, it still boots up and runs just as fast as it did when it was fresh out of the box. But why do I have all these problems? Do you think it might be Windows Vista? I have Home Basic. So, if it’s Vista, then why is Microsoft releasing Windows 7 so soon if Vista is still unfinished as far as the problems it has that still have to be fixed? But I’m so used to Vista now that I don’t want to switch back to boring old XP. But when I had my old Inspiron 640m with 1GB RAM and a Core 2 Duo processor (with the exception of a 120GB 5400RPM hard drive as opposed to this awesome Western Digital Scorpio Black), that laptop ran slow as molasses once I put all my files on from my old PC and installed all the programs I wanted on it. So I was thinking maybe Vista has some configurations that keep the PC running fast if you have the proper setup, so I didn’t want to take the risk of downgrading to XP and have my laptop running slow. So what do you think? Should I call up Dell and ask them if I can have these problems fixed under warranty? Because this laptop isn’t even a month old and already I have these problems. Would I lose any of my files if I took it in? I don’t have an external hard drive to back it all up on and I don’t want to go through the hell I went through to download, rip, purchase, create and install all the programs, music, photos, documents, videos and files I have on my hard drive. It took me 6 years overall to build my music library up to 11000 songs and 3 of those years towards making 156 beats on FL Studio. If I were to lose it all, I’d die.
Okay, I have AVG 8.5 that removes all spyware and viruses I may have on my computer. And I have Windows Defender pre-installed so I’m set. Oh, and CCleaner is the best registry cleaning program I’ve ever used. Up to this point, there is NOTHING I can think of that I can try to get my computer back up to good running condition.
