I have att u-verse phone line to the in of HP officejet pro 8500 and answering machine hooked to the out .I have talked to HP several times I share one phone line ..the latest HP told me I need a digital to analog converter...these run over $100 I have followed all the HP directions and set up I know the phone fax set up are correct. HP has said they have trouble with digital answering machines systems sharing the same phone line, but they don't have a solution. I can send faxes receive faxes if I am there to push the fax button. When left unattended the fax can't distinguish the fax tone are any of these services for additional one time fees for secondary lines any good for an additional line ... I know I am not the only one with this problem any one out there know a real solution?

Is there an adapter or setting to get my phone and fax to share the same line. I have a digital phone answering machine and newer HP fax machine.
