The services offered by the likes of Skype and Google convert audio in a digital format that is later transmitted over the Internet.

I took a look at the Philips Skype phone, soon to be available in the UK.

I’m visiting Istanbul in a few weeks and staying at a 5 star hotel with free WIFI. They claim to provide an ADSL connection but the reviews state that it is some what slow. If you have travelled to Istanbul, how slow do you think it might be from your experience and what issues might I face, ie: high latency, connectivity issues due to packet loss or general low download speeds (1GB or less)? The area I am staying is Sisli. Acivities I will be doing:
* Uploading medium resolution digital photographs (Non-SLR)
* Using Skype with webcam occasionally instead of using the phone
* Accessing YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and other social platforms
* Posting several blog posts on a self-hosted Wordpress blog
@Cagatay: Thanks for the info, but my photos will be at least 1MB or higher as they are higher resolution images. (I don’t want to compress them as I will lose image quality). Also I should be able to access YouTube with a random proxy IP or using an IP cloaker. Many people use them in countries like China, Iran, and Turkey. My hotel website doesn’t specify what kind of connection they offer, all it says is ADSL Wifi. The hotel is quite large so I imagine it was reviewed as being slow because people use it at the same time as everyone else.
