User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Great Cordless Phone
This phone has a great volume whether it is a ring or speaker. It has also clear reception in any corner of my home. The system has easy to understand start up instructions. Excellent battery life. Works well with Vonage VOIP system. No interference with wireless computer network. Previous Panasonic 2.4 GHz phone did interfere with wireless.

5 Stars Nice design, many features
This phone has a slick design and a lot of features. I do recommend that you put the main unit in the middle of your living space if possible to help the range of the phone. I would also go with 5.8 if you have a computer wireless network, 2.4 can be troublesome.

4 Stars Uniden Tru9280-4: good handset speaker phone
If the model number wasn’t clearly indicated and pictures of the box weren’t posted, I would have thought I had bought a different phone than the other reviewers since I’ve had a much better experience than they have apparently had.

I’ve had the phone system about a year and have had very few problems with it. I have not had the range issues other people have had (I can use any of the handsets anywhere in the house or in my backyard, and the base station at the opposite end of the house from the backyard.) I use the handset speakerphone constantly and have been impressed with the clarity. I’ve had no issues with the volume of the ringer and keep it on the lowest possible level for most of the handsets.

Pros:

Handset speaker phone (a huge plus for me and the main reason why I bought the phone)

Inexpensive (at least when I bought it – I paid a LOT less than the current price)

Reasonable standby times for the handsets – I have one handset in a rarely-used room and don’t always leave that handset charger plugged in, and the battery will last at least 1-2 weeks without use

Reasonable talk time (at least 3 hours continuous)

Lots of conference/ transfer/ privacy features with the 4 handsets, although I don’t really use any of them other than the paging feature when I mis-place a handset

All handsets indicate when there is an answering machine message, and you can check messages from any handset or remotely

Can individually adjust the ringer style and ringer volume for each handset

Doesn’t lose your outgoing message if you briefly unplug the base station

DOesn’t seem to make a difference which handset is in which charger

Cons: mostly minor

The keypads are not backlit (my biggest complaint)

Limited selection of cheesy ringtones

I agree that the handset is a bit hard to hold against your ear with your shoulder, but since I use it on speakerphone most of the time it’s not a big deal for me.

answering machine lost the date and time I programmed in on a couple of occasions, so my messages didn’t have a time stamp (It never lost my outgoing message, just the programmed date/ time, so there may have been a brief flicker in the power)

Can’t program the phone to automatically dial the caller ID block code before each call (although to be honest, I’ve only had one phone system that ever did that)

No headset jack on the handsets (although not that big of an issue given that the handsets are speaker phones)

5 Stars With some experimenting, got things working AOK
Decided this Uniden cordless telephone/answering machine system is a keeper. I had a separate answering machine and two different brand cordless phones and replacing them with this Uniden system is a revelation. The integrated feature set will make things much easier and seamless.

The manual makes two suggestions that I endorse heartily:

1. Place the base unit up high. Placing it on the first floor of my house I found that clarity from a critical location on the 2nd floor was unacceptable. Reversing these locations, putting the base in that upstairs location and a handset at the downstairs location totally fixed the problem.

2. For best clarity, hold the handset at the bottom, not the top. My tests improved from marginal clarity in some locations to very good clarity when I paid attention to this detail.

I determined the best location for the base by doing some tests. Placing the base in 3 prospective acceptable locations, I made calls with a handset to my cell phone, letting my cell phone take messages. During these calls I walked around the house and yard talking and saying exactly where I was. Playing back my cell phone messages I could determine exactly what clarity I was getting from each combination of base placement and handset location. Ultimately, I have the base where I get very acceptable clarity all over the house and yard, as long as I hold the handset at the bottom.

1 Star Terrible range, terrible value
I wish I had been able to read the other reviews for this product prior to purchase because believe me, they’re true. Unfortunately I bought it late one Sunday evening after my home phone broke suddenly. It was a total disappointment and I ended up replacing it after two miserable months. I can’t imagine how it rates it’s 5.8 Ghz since everything seems to cause interference. The phonebook allows you to appoint ringer selections to each entry, yet there is no correlation between what is in the phonebook and what comes up on the Caller ID. And the range… well, let’s just say it might as well have a cord. Actually, it would be better with one, that way you wouldn’t find yourself losing a call because you “wandered” 12 feet away from the base! I purchased mine for about $85 and still feel completely ripped off. I can honestly say that I NEVER had a satisfactory call on this unit. Steer clear of this one!

Panasonic KX TGA571S 5 8 GHz FHSS GigaRange Expandable Digital Cordless Handset

Panasonic KX TGA571S 5 8 GHz FHSS GigaRange Expandable Digital Cordless Handset

Designed to be used with KX-TG5700 series telephone systems, the Panasonic KX-TGA571S digital cordless handset uses 5.8 GHz frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology for added clarity and a stronger connection. Because it uses the 5.8 GHz frequency, the handset operates on a different wavelength with much less traffic than the 2.4 GHz technology. The result is greater security, incredible clarity, and longer range. Have a wireless computer network, or thinking about getting one? The phone system’s 5.8 GHz technology will not interfere with wireless networks such as 802.11b or 802.11g WiFi.

Add Images to Your Calls
The cordless handset is designed around a 1.5-inch backlit LCD screen, providing space for images that you can upload to the phone via its USB port. This set includes a single handset, but the system is expandable to a total of eight handsets.

Put the Phone Down While You Talk
When you’ve been on hold for 10 minutes, do you really need to hold the phone? Not with the handset speakerphone. Just lis10 along, and press a button or pick up when it’s convenient. You’ll think up other great uses, like letting Grandma and Grandpa lis10 to their new grandchild at the same time, painting your nails as you talk to your best friend, or just being able to set the phone down while you talk.

5 Stars Best phone
I love this phone. This the best phone I ever had. Great looks, great performance and features. I have 6 handsets in addition to the base one and 2 cameras they all work great. Intercom is great as well and very “easy-to-use”. Screen would have been nicer with a little better resolution.

5 Stars great buy for the monney
i am very happy with my new handset it was not difficult to install and the way it works is great. i would buy it again

5 Stars Panasonic KX-TGA571S
I bought this unit to add to the other two I have. This unit connects easily and is easy to use. The range is excellent and the clarity is great. I can easily work out in the garage or yard with no problems. The intercom feature is very useful too. I recommend this product!

3 Stars Nice Idea
This phone is an expandable handset to the KX-TG5776S. I was going to return the phones but I purchased it on Amazon.com through seller “Globazar” and their return policy indicates a 15% restocking fee> Rather than be charged the restocking fee, I decided to keep the phones. I purchased them in December, 2008 after phones were discontinued. The phonebook can be copied from one phone handset to the other. You can download pictures and sound to the phone and assign it to names in your address book. I was able to copy phonebook to other handsets but was not able to copy the pictures that was assigned to the names. This phone has some nice features but as others indicated, “missed call” is displayed even when phone calls are picked up.

1 Star Amazon return policy is STINKO!!
Got ripped off on a refund through Amazon. Paid $45 for a cordless phone and had to add $10 to ship it back. Out of the $55 I had into this, I received a $32 return!! The add I clicked on to buy the phone was misleading… it did NOT say the phone was an extension only and would not work without a base unit!! I will not be using Amazon or ANYonline ever again!!

4 Stars Good choice
The phone works great! Easily sets up and linked to the base and other handsets.

3 Stars Just ok…
I have 6 of these as I bought into the system a few years ago. They go bad easily. Batteries stop holding a charge, the speakers tend to go bad. The intercom is always nice. The shared phonebook feature is odd. You have to push a list to each of the other phones. Can’t turn off ringer light. The answering machine options are non-standard and can get you to wipe out your message when dialing in remotely to check messages. Lots of little poor design features but overall the phone has some good features and it works ok.

5 Stars Terrific Phones
I purchased the base phone and 1 expansion two years ago. I just love them! I love the talking caller id which is why I bought them. They have many cool features like ringtones and you can upload pictures into them. I loved these phones so much I just bought 3 more. Now I have 5 phones one in every room. I was not disappointed in fact I recommend this Panasonic phone system highly. They are on sale now and I may buy a couple more!

5 Stars GREAT PRODUCT & SELLER
product better than expected. plan to order other units in near future from same seller. fast delivery.

5 Stars works well, no problems
We bought the base for this about a year ago and now have added 3 extra handsets and will add a fourth. We’ve had no problems with it as we have had with multiple phones in the past with noise and clarity. The intercom feature is very nice and useful. It has a lot of bells and whistles that I have not taken the time to mess with setting up (customized rings, etc…), but basic set up is easy and I’m very glad we chose this system.

5 Stars Magic Jack Compatible
I am writing this review for a couple of reasons. The first reason is that the picture provided on the front page is the model with answering machine. The model that you will be receiving is the model without the answering machine. I have uploaded a picture of that model.

The second reason is I was looking for a phone that would be compatible with my Magic Jack Phone Line. This is the best sounding phone I have used with the Magic Jack service. I have tried several other brands and this one seems to work the best the sound quality is much better then the others. Since the magic Jack system offers free voicemail I didn’t need the model with the answering machine. If you don’t care about 200 memories and a hundred ring tones than this is the phone for you. It has all of the basic features and since it is a 5.8 system you will not pick up interference from most wireless computer systems.

I am completely satisfied with this phone and its sound quality. I highly recommend it.

I hope this information helps others.

4 Stars not bad for the money 40 bucks
Upon arrival, one of the handsets had a broken screen- not cracked or anything, just very difficult to read the numbers on the caller ID. I like the intercom feature except that when pressed, BOTH phones start beeping until the intercom call is answered- not just the phone you’re trying to call. For instance, if I’m holding handset 1 in the living room and attempt to call my son on handset 3 in the den, both handsets 1 and 3 will beep loudly until he answers. Maybe it’s stupid, but it kind of irritates me and feels like I might as well just yell across the house with all the noise it makes anyway. So much for trying not to wake the baby! Also, while I am speaking to him on the intercom, we have the lovely background music of a dial-tone or phone off the hook. Other than that, the price was right, I like the black color, the charge lasts pretty long, sound is clear, and reception is pretty good even out in the yard (to a small distance). Not bad. Oh yeah, speaker is nice and loud, clear, and no one has had any trouble hearing me yet.

edit: Sorry, I finally figured out how to work the intercom properly, hmmm…..maybe I should have read the manual??? So yes, the intercom works WITHOUT the dial tone in the background unless you’re an idiot like me and keep pressing the wrong button. Also, another great feature I forgot to add is the room monitor which is great for listening in on the kids in another room.

5 Stars quick service product exactly as described great value
The product was exactly as ordered – Second set of these phones for another house – First set we had for over a year and absolutely no problems – batteries hold up very well and phones work great – would buy again – order came promptly

2 Stars Not the phone in the picture!
I ordered this phone. The phone pictured has an answering machine, this model does NOT! The description of the model is accurate though.

5 Stars Great Phone
I recently purchased these phones to replace both vtech dual cordless phones and Uniden dual cordless phones. The ones I replaced stopped charging at the base units. This system is the best I have ever had as far as cordless phones go. Great features such as the 50 number memory, being able to name each phone and the intercom feature. I especially like the intercom feature as it lets one talk to others thorugh out the house without calling to them in a raised voice, upsetting the dog. I haven’t purchased a 4th handset but like the ability to.
